Privacy policy
How we look after the information you share with us.
Who we are
This website is run by Michelle Plater, trading as By Jove Books ("we"). You can contact us at michelle@byjovebooks.com.
What we collect
We only collect what you choose to send us. If you use the contact form, we receive your name, email address, the topic you choose and your message. Our hosting provider also keeps standard server logs (such as IP address and browser type) to keep the site secure.
How we use it
We use your details to reply to your message and for nothing else. Our lawful basis is legitimate interest in responding to you. We do not sell or share your details for marketing.
Who processes it
The site is hosted in the UK by 20i. Contact form messages are delivered by our website management platform, which checks messages for spam before passing them to us by email. Fonts are served by Bunny Fonts, which does not log or track visitors. Book covers and the author photo are loaded from Amazon’s image servers, which receive your IP address in the normal way when your browser requests them. These providers only process data on our instructions or under their own privacy policies.
If you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics (Google Ireland Ltd) receives information about how you use the site, such as pages viewed and approximate location. We use this only to understand what readers find useful.
How long we keep it
We keep contact messages for as long as we need to deal with your enquiry, and for no longer than two years.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete the information we hold about you, or object to how we use it. Email us and we'll respond within one month. If you're unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Links to other sites
This site links to Amazon, Substack and Instagram. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and we're not responsible for how they use your data.
